THIRD ANNUAL PRINCE GEORGE 40 DAYS FOR LIFE

The next 40 Days for Life Campaign is scheduled to start on February 10th.

We are looking for co-coordinators to help organize the event and volunteers for the vigil. As this is a 40 day campaign it requires many people to volunteer.

40 Days for Life is a community-based campaign that takes a determined, peaceful approach to showing local communities the consequences of abortion in their own neighborhoods, for their own friends and families. It puts into action a desire to cooperate with God in the carrying out of His plan for the end of abortion. It draws attention to the evil of abortion through the use of a three-point program: Prayer and fasting, Constant vigil and Community outreach.

Prince George is one of the four communities in BC that hosts this event. Many lives have been saved through your efforts. Help to save even more lives.

Please email Tony Donovan at mailto:tdonovan@gmail.com to volunteer, or for more information.

Attention Former Frontier Apostle

What does it mean for descendants of residential school staff to reconcile with Canadian history? To explore this question, Caroline Crocker, a graduate student at the University of Victoria, is reaching out to other Canadians like herself – people whose parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles or other relatives worked in the Indian Residential School System – to ask them to join a focus group on Saturday, January 30, 2016 to discuss the topic. Caroline’s research project is on reconciliation (improving relationships and healing) in Canada between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people, specifically in regards to the Indian Residential School system. If you worked at an Indian Residential School and you think possibly your children, grandchildren, nieces or nephews would be interested in participating in this discussion, contact Caroline by phone at 613-986-2276 or by email at  crockerc@uvic.ca for further information.

Visiting a Church or an Oratory on All Souls Day

From the Handbook of Indulgences

A plenary (“full”) indulgence, which is applicable only to the souls in Purgatory, is granted to the Christian faithful who devoutly visit a church or an oratory on All Souls Day, November 2.

Requirements for Obtaining a Plenary Indulgence on All Souls Day

  • Visit a church and pray for souls in Purgatory
  • Say one “Our Father” and the “Apostles Creed” in the visit to the church
  • Say one “Our Father” and one “Hail Mary” for the Holy Father’s intentions (that is, the intentions designated by the Holy Father each month)
  • Worthily receive Holy Communion (ideally on the same day if you can get to Mass)
  • Make a sacramental confession within 20 days of All Souls Day
  • For a plenary indulgence be free from all attachment to sin, even venial sin (otherwise, the indulgence is partial, not plenary, “full”).

You can acquire one plenary indulgence a day.

A partial indulgence, applicable only to the Souls in Purgatory, can be obtained when saying the “Eternal rest …” prayer.

Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Perhaps you are not sure you can attain complete detachment from all sin, even venial.  Before you perform the indulgenced work, ask God explicitly to take away any affection for sin you might be treasuring.  Do this often and, over your lifetime, and you may find it easier and easier. Support your good project with good confessions and good communions.  You need those graces.
