Legion of Mary

Legion of MaryMembers of the Legion of Mary from the Archdiocese of Vancouver will be working with St. Mary’s Parish and Sacred Heart Cathedral  from June 30th to July 12th as door to door missionaries. They will invite people to learn more about the Catholic Faith or in the case of inactive Catholics, invite them back to a parish.

The Legion of Mary is a lay apostolic association of Catholics who, with the sanction of the Church and under the powerful leadership of Mary Immaculate, Mediatrix of All Graces, serve the Church and their neighbour on a voluntary basis in about 170 countries. The object of the Legion of Mary is the glory of God through the holiness of its members developed by prayer and active co-operation in Mary’s and the Church’s work.

The Legion sees as its priority the spiritual and social welfare of each individual. Members become instruments of the Holy Spirit through a balanced program of prayer and service. Members meet once a week for prayer, planning and discussion in a family setting.

Every legionary is required to carry out a weekly apostolic work in the spirit of faith and in union with Mary. Works include door-to-door evangelization, parishioner visitation, prison ministry, visitation of the sick or aged, crowd contact, religious education, visiting the newly baptized, Pilgrim Virgin Statue rotations, and meeting the other spiritual needs of the parish community. The Legion is, in essence, an extension of the heart and hands of the pastor.

If you would like further information on the Legion of Mary, please join them for a presentation at St. Mary’s Parish in Prince George, Wednesday, July 2nd at 7 pm or at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Thursday, July 3rd at 7 pm or visit their website at: http://www.legionofmarybc.ca/
